Everyone around the globe knows that America continues to be very slow to consider soccer as one of its major past times. So it will not play on TV nearly as much as a local baseball game.
If you look at American sports now you will have some sort of break every five or ten minutes. Baseball has inning changes; football has TV time outs, regular time outs and possession changes; and basketball has time outs and quarters. There is plenty of time-slots to fit in commercials on the air. Even golf, one of the earliest sports, you will find a transition between participants or drives or putts that cable stations will be able to squeeze tv ads into. You can see that these are America’s most popular sports. The many fanatics that the us does have has been seeking hard to drive it down our throats since the early 1990s. With the World Cup in the US in 1994, Soccer hopefuls celebrated thinking that the world sport would finally gain popularity. With the poor showing of the American team, that dream was short lived.
Through many of our youths did we see soccer televised so there was little influence on us to enjoy the sport. Comparing the sport to auto racing, there isn’t enough action to keep the majority of American audiences interested. And a goal is scored while the TV network is on a commercial break, forget about it. In Nascar quite possibly the most that might take place is a car or truck pileup in a commercial break. However watching the replays of car wrecks is as good as watching it live.It will never help that the United States however has not yet coached a terrific group at the world level. It was just the other day when I saw Manchester Utd easily beat America’s MLS soccer allstars 4-0 as a very good example. That was our best team against a world reknown club team. The best way I could describe it was that the US fielded a team that was drastically underperforming the Manchester Utd.. The US players who are good, just cannot compete consistently with world class players.
Americans are unfairly treated though for the reason that the world believes that americans dislike soccer for the reason that we are arrogant. But many will agree that most countries do not view soccer as their top sport. The top sport for the Dominican Republic is baseball not football. We all know that the Australians live for their Rugby or Aussie Rules Football. And then in India and Pakistan, most many people there love cricket! They play in a championship that is also called the world cup.
And speaking of cricket, that is a high scoring game if I ever saw one. If the activity of football was resented due to their low scoring, consequently cricket might have made a prime sport a long time ago simply because the game is just about all scoring. I recognize as soon as tv networks can understand how to monetize the sport with advertising the sport of soccer may become prominent. The sport is more popular than it was when I was child. The game of soccer is being play more and more by children as they get older. It really is just a matter of time.
